Faculty

The speciality of the Faculty is that an attempt has been made to revive the “Guru-Shishya” tradition prevailing in ancient India.

Indian Classical Music

Pt. Ramrao Nayak deciple of Pt. A.K.Abhyankar and Pt. V. R. Athavle, head of the Indian Classical Music faculty. He is a “Sangeet Alankar” of Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mumbai. An aproved artiste of A.I.R and Doordarshan. He holds the Karnataka Government’s Vidvat degree. He has been felicitated and honoured by reputed organizations and awards including the Gomant Kalabhushan, Mst. Dinanath Mangeshkar Smriti, All India Kalidas music festival, Kirana Music Festival to name a few. Since last 30 years he has been guiding and nurturing number of students in the Hindustani Classical Vocal, amongst which some are now the prominent and promising vocalists in India.

Mrs. Pratima Nayak, an assistant teacher in Hindustani vocal, has undergone training in Hindustani Vocal from her husband and guru Pt. Ramrao Nayak, for last 20 years.

Ms. Aarti Ramrao Nayak, a young representative vocalist, daughter and deciple of Pt. Ramrao Nayak. She is “Sangeet Alankar” of Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mumbai, wherein she stood 2nd in All India and felicitated for the same. She has pursued Masters in Music from the SNDT university, Mumbai and she is also a Post Graduate in Commerce.
She is admired by Scholarship and fellowships of the Institutions like CCRT (Centre for Cultural Resources and Training – New Delhi), Scholarship of “Government Of India – Ministry of Culture, New Delhi” for the Field of Indian Classical Vocal (2007). She has been Honored with the Giants International Award – 2008 in recognition for achieving highest standard of work in the field of music. She has been admired with the title SurMani for the year 2008 by the Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai. The prestigious Award of All India Radio for Semi Classical Category (1999-2000) & for Light Music Category (2001-2002), Vamandaji Puraskar, National Youth Festival award in Hindustani Vocal, are in her credit.
She has given Playback for National Award winning Marathi Film Savali. An approved artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan. Ms. Aarti Nayak has rendered successful concerts under the auspices of many great music circles & prestigious Organisations in India. Ms. Aarti is the Assistant teacher in Hindustani classical vocal.

Mr.Shailesh Gaonkar is the Tabla Faculty in Kalangan. He has attained his Master of Music (Tabla) from Kolhapur University. He is the deciple of Shri. Ulhas Velingkar, Pt. Amod Dandge and Pt. Arvind Mulgaonkar. He has parcipated in various festivals and sammelans organized in Goa.

Mr. Sandeep Nagvenkar is a”Sangeet Visharad’ (B. Music), “Sangeet Alankar” (M.Music) of A.B. G. M. M. Mumbai and Sangit Kushal of Kala Academy, Goa. He has participated and accompanied in several sammelans in varios parts of Goa. He has pursued MA (economics) from the Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

Mrs. Sushma Velingkar is the Sitar faculty in kalangan. A deciple of Shri. Manab Das and Ustad Chote Rehmat Khan. She has attained her ‘Bachelor of Music’ (Sitar) from the Goa College of Music with a first class. She has participated in various programmes in Goa.

Indian Classical Dance

AlKa Lajmi is a M.A. (Bharata Natyam), from University of Pune head of the Indian Classical dance faculty in the guidance of Dr. Sucheta Chapekar. She had her bharatnatyam training under the guidance of Smt. Smita Mahajan and Dr. Sucheta Chapekar. She has been awarded the title “Singarmani” by the Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai.
Alka has participated in a mumber of prestigious festivals like Ram Marathe Smruti Samaroh, National Centre for Performing Arts, Swami Haridas festival, Sanskrit Varsh Samaroh, Kalabharati, Mahila Sangeet Nritya Mahaotsava, Paluskar Punyatithi Samaroh, ‘Sanyog’ (a fusion of Kathak and Bharata Natyam), Natyanjali festival, (Satara and Mumbai), Thane Yuva Mahotsav, Kanara Saraswat Sangeet Nritya Samaroh, Kanha Megh Utsav to name a few.

Lalan Desai – A young accomplished Bharata Natyam dancer, is a talented performer in her own right. Holding a Master’s degree with Gold medal, from Pune University. She is a disciple of Dr. Sucheta Bhide Chapekar. She is a recipient of national scholarship from the dept of culture, Govt. of India for advanced studies. Agile, graceful and expressive Lalan has performed extensively within the region & outside as a soloist & in groups in several prestigious dance festivals such as Sangeet Natak Academy’s “Nritya Prabha”, “Shivali festival”, Mumbai to name a few. Equally accomplished as a teacher, Lalan also has special talent for choreography

Rama Sanjay Talwadker holds the “Nritya Visharad” Degree of Akhil bharatiya gandharva mahavidhyalay, miraj. She has also successfully completed “Rangapravesham ” of kalavardhini institute, pune. Rama, has been working as ‘bharatnatyam teacher’ in Kalangan since 2006 and also as a lecturer at SP chowgule college (MSc -IT dept). MSc – Information Technology. She is a recipient of the scholarship by the ministry of culture, new delhi under the scheme scholarships to young artists in different cultural fields.
Rama has rendered successful concerts which includes nakshatra utsav, pernem, classical dance festival, mardol festival, nrityaankur, pune etc.

Alka Lajmi

(Faculty Head, Bharatanatyam)

Senior disciple of Guru Dr. Sucheta Chapekar and Smt. Smita Mahajan, Alka Lajmi has been performing and teaching Bharata Natyam for more than three decades. She has a post graduate degree in Bharata Natyam from University of Pune and has been conferred with the degree of Sangeetacharya from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. She has been training students for Visharad and Alankar exams and many of her students have successfully completed their Visharad and Alankar courses.
Alka has choreographed many theme-based dance presentations like Priye Charusheele, Shiva Shakti, Rasa Drishti, Krishnanubandha, Bhakti Ranga, Abhanga Gatha, to name a few.

Madhavi Desai

Madhavi Desai, joined Kalangan as a student of the Bharatanatyam Ladies Batch at the age of 35. She successfully completed the five years basic course and went on to complete her Visharad degree with a first class. She has been teaching Bharatanatyam at Kalangan since 2005. She efficiently manages the logistics and administration during Kalangan dance programs and Arangetrams. She is also a regular examiner for Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Practical examinations.

Sushmita Pednekar

Sushmita Pednekar – an alumnus of Kalangan, she has successfully completed ALANKAR degree with a first class from Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. She has also performed at various prestigious festivals like Nrutyankur festival Pune, Nakshatra festival and Yuva Pratibhotsav (Yuva Sangeet Sammelan) organized by Department of Art and Culture, Women’s day festival organized by Ravindra Bhavan Margao, Serendipity Arts Festival etc. She has been actively engaged in this art form from past 18 years and has choreographed different dance performances for various shows and competitions.

Yogita Raikar

Ms. Yogita Ulhas Raikar hailing from Kudal, Sindhudurg took to music at age of 9 and had her initial training in music from Shri. Rajan Madye at Kudal and later from Pt. Sameer Dubley for ‘Sangeet Visharad’. She pursued ‘Sangeet Alankar’ of Akhil Bhartiya Gandharava Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Mumbai. She has pursued M.P.A Vocal in Hindustani Classical Music from Shivaji University, Kolhapur and also qualified UGC-NET exam in the subject of Hindustani Music Vocal/Instrumental. She is currently taking guidance from Vidushi Pallavi Joshi for classical music.
She has won the First Prize in Hindustani Classical Vocal in 3rd Cultural Olympiad-2013, Dubai organized by ABSS Global council of Art and Culture. She has been awarded ‘Late. Aanand Ramachandra Limaye Buwa’ award having stood first in M.A. Music Vocal, Shivaji University.

Harmonium

Vipul Bhagat

Vipul Bhagat, started learning harmonium at a young age from Gulab Tengse sir in Canacona.  He has completed Bachelor in Performing Arts from Goa College of Music with Distinction. He has been receiving valuable guidance from renowned harmonium players Shri. Dattaraj Mhalshi, Shri. Dattaraj Surlakar and Shri. Raya Korgaonkar.

He has performed as a solo performer as well as accompanist at various prestigious music festivals and has won first prize at zonal level youth festival for solo harmonium.

Tabla

Amod Dandage

Panditji is the first receiver of prestigious degree of Sangeet Alankar in his hometown Kolhapur.
Panditji has received training from the most prominent and renowned Gurus: Ust. Mamhulal Sangaonkar, Pt. Omkar Gulwadi and Pt. Arvind Mulgaonkar. He has written several books on Tabla (Taal Shastra) which is a guide book to all the tabla students, teachers and Tabla lovers across the world. He is a representative of younger generation of famous Farrukhabad Gharana. Panditji has been awarded by “Kalanjali” Music Institute, Kolhapur for his contribution to music, he has also been conferred with “Sangeet Ratna” award 2011 by Society for action through music (Sam) and Gandhi Hindusthani Sahitya Sabha, New Delhi. He is an Authorized Guide of Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal for Sangeet Acharya, Member of Board of Studies of Pune University for Tabla, authorized Guru of Lalit Kala Kendra Pune University and has many other accolades to his credit.

Sitar

Archana Naik

Archana Naik started learning Sitar under the tutelage of Ustad Karim Khan and Pt. Chote Rehmat Khan at Kala Academy. She has completed her Bachelors of Music from Goa College of Music under the guidance of Guru Manav Das and Guru Chandrashekhar Naringrekar. She has performed at various festivals like Swar Ragini Goa’s First Woman’s Fusion Band (By Pt. Yograj Naik), Pt. Ravi Chary’s Symphony, Indian Coast Guard to name a few. Currently she is taking guidance from Dr. Ragini Trivediji (Indore) and Pt. Ravi Chary.

Drawing And Painting

Seeya Pandit

Seeya is a gold Medalist in BFA Painting from Goa College of Art and has also pursued a Master’s degree in Fine Arts in Painting (MFA).
She has received several awards in the field of art like Late Manguesh Vasudeo Kenkre Alias Aba Quencro Award 2017-2018, Late Smt. Gopicabai V. Dempo memorial Prize 2017-2018, Goa State Award organized by Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation Kalanand 2018, first prize at State Art exhibition 2022 organized by Kala Academy (student category) painting section. She has secured Shri. Sandeep Helekar and Shri. Raghoba Harmalkar memorial award for the most creative work of the year in 2017-2018.
